Success and Sustainability – Part IV
Wise Practices from Indigenous Economic Development Corporations in the Forestry Sector
This report is the final installment of CCIB’s forestry research series, developed in partnership with Natural Resources Canada to deepen understanding of how to support meaningful engagement of Indigenous businesses and communities in the forestry sector. Through in-depth profiles of three Indigenous Economic Development Corporations (IEDCs) demonstrating leadership in forestry engagement—Tahltan Nation Development Corporation, Tatanka Oyate Holdings, and Dallan LP—this project identifies best practices and practical tools to help Indigenous communities strengthen their roles and thrive as industry leaders.
Key findings highlight foundational pillars for success, including empowering Indigenous-led forestry management, fostering equitable partnerships, integrating Traditional Knowledge, expanding practical skills training, inspiring youth engagement, and enhancing community development. Together, these insights offer actionable strategies that balance economic prosperity with cultural continuity, community well-being, and environmental stewardship.
