Oshkaabewis Engineering and Consulting Inc. (Oshkaabewis) is a majority Indigenous owned engineering and consulting firm with a head office located in Collingwood, Ontario. Oshkaabewis smooths the way for ancestral knowledge systems to guide contemporary solutions in engineering, project management, Indigenous engagement, consultancy, and negotiations. We serve First Nations communities, resource develop¬ment companies, institutions, other professional consultants, and private developers.
What We do
Engineering
Our current engineering service offerings include mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing) design for design of the built environment, including infrastructure, commercial space, public buildings, residential developments, and land use planning. Additional engineering services include energy modeling, renewable energy systems design, feasibility studies, and construction review.
Indigenous Engagement and Consulting
We offer consulting services to support development on First Nations lands, including community engagement, negotiation, technical review, and other support services. We support First Nations exploring resource ex¬traction partnerships and revenue sharing agreements. We will facilitate workshops to familiarize First Nation & Indigenous ventures with the dynamics of potential development approaches. We provide independent review and administration supporting new First Nation project development. We can support public and private project management and procurement entities to include effective ways to encourage Indigenous participation. We can undertake community engagement to support new capital and development projects. We provide cultural flu¬ency training for public and private entities.
Project Management
We can provide design review for professional architects, planners, engineers, landscape architects, and other design consultants to deepen their ability to include Indigenous spatial understanding and narratives in building and development projects. We can assist with coordinating funding sources, project cash flow, existing condi¬tions reports, procurement, and consultant coordination. We can provide construction management services including review of construction progress and procurement of trades and contractors on behalf of the owner.
