TD Economics – Part I

Estimating The Size of The Aboriginal Market in Canada

In 2011, TD Economics and CCAB partnered on a report that worked to understand the size and growth of the Indigenous market in Canada. Over the past decade, Indigenous people in Canada – both on- and off-reserve– have been increasingly flexing their economic muscle. TD Economics estimates that the combined total income of Indigenous households, business and government sectors will reach $24 billion in 2011, double the $12 billion tally recorded in 2001. By 2016, we estimate that this overall income pie could eclipse $32 billion, or roughly 50% above this year’s estimated level.
